Manawatu Digi Awards Finals

On Monday, the 21st of November it was the Manawatu Digi Awards along. Our music video was chosen as a finalist along with a few other entries from GRi11 2.0 and College Street. We went to the Regent, all fancied up to await the results.

We were so nervous waiting for everyone else’s category. Our category was the last one so we had to wait for ages! We were really excited watching all the other entries on the big screen. Siu and Zahra’s ‘Anzac Day Book Launch’ won the Year 4-6 Graphic Design! Screams came from the crowd as we cheered them up on stage.
Now it was our turn...our hearts were racing now. As they were playing all the nominee’s videos, time seemed to slow down. Finally our one was playing… Now was the moment. “And the award goes to…Mean Music Video! Siu, Kristy and Maddi from College Street Normal School!” We couldn’t believe it! We started to fumble our way up the stage, handing out high fives as we went. We got our trophies and certificates and went back to our seats, buzzing from the excitement.
Next they announced that there would be Supreme Winners for each year group category. They took all the winners from the Year 4-6 age group and picked the ‘Supreme Winner’ overall. As they were showing all the entries that could win, we all looked at each other and were thinking that there was no way we were going to win.
“ And the Supreme Winner is… Mean-Music video! Siu, Kristy and Maddi from College Street Normal School.” We were shocked. We got up once again and we rushed to the stage to receive our awards. We got two more trophies and a chromebook for the school.  We couldn’t believe we won not only our category but the supreme award too! All our hard work had paid off; the careful scripting, the arguments, the scene ideas, the weather and making the story come to life!
It was such an amazing experience! Something that we will remember for years to come.

Manawatu Primary School Table Tennis Tournament

On the 15/11/16 the CSNS Table Tennis team went to the Barber Hall on Waldegrave Street to play in Manawatu Primary Schools Table Tennis Tournament. We got there at 8:30am and started to practice against each other as a warm up.

Our first game was against Aokautere school. We all played 2 games each and umpired 2 games. We were all having so much fun. We won 10-6. Then we played Longburn Primary and Riverdale. We won both of these fixtures as well. All of us were stoked as we hadn’t played proper table tennis before.

After lunch we had a skill challenge. In pairs we started the longest rally competition, CSNS were so far away from winning this it was ridiculous. The longest rally was 457 shots, Mr R had to count them (we didn’t know he could count that high)!. The next one was who can bounce the ball the longest on their paddle the longest. 3 CSNS kids got in the top 5.

We had 2 games left against Tiritea and Manchester Street. We drew with Manchester Street and lost to Tiritea. They were very close games.

The final scores were announced and CSNS came 3rd in the Boys, 3rd in the Girls and 3rd overall. We all got bronze medals! I also won a voucher for showing promise during my games!!

The day was a great day and everyone had fun and learnt about table tennis. The GRi11 2.0 kids Gihara, Joonoh, Zara, Yutong and myself hope we can play table tennis again in the future!

Cycle Safety

On the 2nd of November the Grill went out for a lesson on bike safety with Constable McFlinn. First we had to learn all the safety rules before we started to bike. Then we learnt the top of the T before me which means whoever is at the top goes first, Parallel roads and roundabouts.

We learned about the hand signals which are raise your hand up like a high five so they know that you're gonna stop.If you wanna turn left you have to stretch your arm out to the left and if you wanna turn right do the same thing but opposite sides.

In the afternoon we had to start practicing the safety rules on our bikes as if there was actual intersections with other cyclists trying not to try crash into others.
