2016 School Cross Country Writing

After completing the gruelling school cross country we wrote about our experiences. We could choose to write a recount, a letter, an argument, a narrative, a report or an explanation. Below are a few examples of our writing.
Cross Country Recount
By Gihara Fernando

The day was here, it was finally cross country. I had a shiver down my spine. It was one of the days I feared the most. It was the ninth of June and we were heading to the Dransfield’s farm.

The course was 3 kilometres and I was aiming to at least get in the top 15. Bang !!!The race started. It was a tough hard course with mud pits all around. There were lots of steep hills and big hills to climb up. I was running up the hill as fast as a Jaguar.

I was on a big gravel road breathing heavily. I sprinted my hardest as I could see the finish line. I could hear all the cheering crowd as the first girl came in from the run. I sprinted to the finish line. I got my points and put it in takahe box. I Was so proud of myself for finishing the cross country. I achieved my goal, I came 12th. Yay!!

Dear Mrs Langley,
Thank you very much for all your hard work in organising the Cross Country for Years 3-6. I know it is a big job but you and Mrs Tremain are really good at it.

I liked the course. It was interesting to run down and up hills. I loved running through the mud that was my favourite thing. I nearly slipped over heaps of time. Luckily I didn’t. This year I didn’t even get tired. I got 38th place.

It would be really good if we could have the Cross Country on a farm every year. Thanks a lot for your hard work.

The C.S.N.S. Cross Country 2016 Recount

By Jaeziah Tuimana

9th June 2016 was the date that we had the cross-country at the Dransfields farm. Some of the boys and girls from Grill 2.0 got stuck behind because we didn’t have enough buses. So while we waited for a bus we decided to have some fun. But when the bus finally came we all hopped in and went to the farm.

When we arrived everybody was sitting and waiting for us to start the first race . When we sat down the teachers said “Yr 3 girls race in 5 minutes”. When the first race started most of us went and watched them race up the hill and disappear behind the hill. All of the other races were exactly like that.

After waiting through 7 races they announced it was the yr 6 boys “Finally” I said in joy. But then when we got there they said “Just wait because we don’t want 4 races on the field so just wait for the yr 5 girls to finish”.  When they all finished we went and got ready by running up and down a little hill and did some stretching.

After that we lined up at the start line. 3, 2, 1, GO! We all sprinted up the hill and went down. On the way down I nearly face planted but I kept up and ran down the whole way. I caught up to Liam and went up the muddy hill. We turned right,  stepped over a little ditch and then turned left to a big hill. Once I got up the hill I saw Mr R who said he would be halfway so I kept a jog going and stayed like that till Mr R and then walked a little. I saw what was up ahead and started jogging again.

I saw a mud puddle and slid through it and didn’t slip unlike other people. But when I saw what was left I thought I’m just going to run as hard as I can. So I did until I got to the hay bales near the forest and the teacher said to me “Run as hard as you can”. So then I Jogged and waited till the opportune moment to sprint. Then at the final length I sprinted as hard as I could. Me and Liam were neck and neck the whole race and I beat him by a hair for 33 points. YES!

After that big day we packed our bags hopped onto the bus and went back to school for Lunch.

Jaeziah going for gold.
