GRi11 2.0 had their first sport rotation with Matt yesterday. Matt is from Table Tennis Manawatu. He taught us 'The Shake Hand Grip'.
The Shake Hand Grip is when you place your index across the top bit of the handle and your thumb behind (a little bit goes on the paddle). Your bottom three fingers go around the Table Tennis handle loosely to support your grip.
We also learned how to play a forehand and backhand. Forehand is when your thumb is pointing away from you (hit the ball with that side of the paddle). Backhand is when your index finger is pointing away from you (hit the ball with that side of the paddle).
We had to balance the ball on our paddle, then bounce the ball on the forehand and the backhand sides of our paddle to practice these skills. Then we practiced playing on the tables.
Matt also taught us how to serve. There are four steps to completing a proper Table Tennis sevre.
- The server has to be behind the white line.
- Present the ball to your opponent and pause.
- Throw the ball up (16cm) before you hit it.
- The ball has to bounce once on your side before it goes over the net.
Now you can be a pro server!
Here is a video to show you some of the fun we had!! Check it Out! by Holly G
Look forward to learning that serve!
