Band and Open Mic Performances

Some very talented GRi11 2.0 kids have been out performing in our community. Terado, Hyacinthe, Kristy, Ivy, Maya, Zahra, Siu and Brooke have been performing in an Open Mic challenge over the year. Last Tuesday was the final showcase with scholarships up for grabs. They all performed extremely well and Siu and Hyacinthe receieved scholarships for next year.

The band also performed in a gig at the Stomach along with bands from Russell Street, Monrad, Roslyn and Mt Biggs.

Here is some writing that was published in the school newsletter this week by some of our talented musicians/writers!

GRi11 2.0 Learning Spaces

This term we are learning all about 'Hauora'. There are four parts of Hauora: Social, Mental and Emotional, Spiritual and Physical.

In Gri11 2.0 we have 4 learning spaces, the Hub (the main room), the Hideout, the Hangout, and the Hall of Fame. We designed and named each room at the start of the year so we could learn comfortably in our class Gri11 2.0. We set up different learning spaces that target different learning styles and the 4 elements of Hauora.

The Hub is the main room and it targets all four walls of Hauora, Physical (red), Mental and Emotional(yellow), Spiritual(blue), and Social(green).

The Hideout is a little side room that targets spiritual and it is a quiet room.

The Hangout a little side room that targets Social/teamwork so people work together in there.

The Hall of Fame is a narrow and long room it targets Mental and Emotional so it is calm in there.

Cole likes learning the Hub because he can't focus in other rooms.
Jacob likes Learning in the Hub so he can work in confined spaces.
Holly likes learning in the Hub so she can talk to her friends about her learning.
Lara likes learning in the Hangout because she likes talking to her friends about her learning.

Did you notice that all of the names start with H?

These are the GRi11 2.0 learning space logos...
The Hub
The Hub is coloured mainly green because it is mostly a 'social' space, but does target the other colours too.

The Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame is most colours of Hauora because it is Social, Mental and Emotional, Spiritual.
The Hangout
The Hangout is green because it is a social
The Hideout
The Hideout is blue because is is a silent space

GRi11 2.0 Girls Visit Harold

On the 29th of February the girls in Grill 2.0 had a visit to Harold and Tim in the Life Ed truck.

We learned about how our body uses the food we eat and turns it into energy. Some food gives us more energy than others, so it is important to eat the most of fruit and vegetables and breads, cereals, pasta and rice. Treats are only sometimes foods because they are made out of mostly sugar, salt and fat which are bad for your body if we have too much.

Did you know that your small intestine is about 5 to 6 metres long? It has a very important job to do. It has small holes (villi) that let the broken down food into your blood stream to give you energy.

This links to our Term 1 unit about Hauora - especially our physical well being.

It was a really cool experience - we can't wait for the next session!

Thanks for reading,
From the Girls of Grill 2.0

GRi11 2.0 at Sixtus Lodge Camp

This week GRi11 2.0 went to camp at Sixtus Lodge in Apiti. We had 3 days of fun filled activities and challenges.

When we arrived we settled into our dorms then we were ready to set off for the Heritage Track walk. It was really hot and felt like we were walking FOREVER! But it was awesome to finish the challenge.

GRi11 2.0 Ready to conquer the Heritage Track!

Some of the activities we did were horse riding, target shooting, first aid, all terrain skateboarding, confidence course, exploring insects, making hokey pokey not to mention the amazing river walk and glow worm caves. On the last day we also had a GRi11 2.0 Super Challenge and water slide.

It was such an amazing (exhausting!) experience, I'm sure one that we will remember for a really long time.

Thank you to the amazing parents who came with us to feed us and make the camp possible. We couldn't have done it without you!

Here are some photos of our time at Sixtus Lodge:

GRi11 2.0

This year our class is called GRi11 2.0. This is our logo. We had a home learning task to create a logo for the class name we chose. Then we voted on the finalists. This is the one we chose.

The G is for Miss G, the R is for Mr R, the i is for Room 10 and the ll is for Room 11. This year we are the second version so the 2.0 is in the i.

It was designed by Carter.

What do you think?

We are excited for a fun year of learning. Keep posted to see what exciting things we are learning about.

2016 Welcome

Kia Ora and welcome to GRi11 for 2016. We are excited to get to know you and your whanau throughout the year.  We are really looking forward to teaching in an Innovative Learning Space (ILE) again this year. We both love teaching and providing children with exciting, fun, and memorable learning opportunities. We are also interested in children developing an understanding of themselves as learners and how technology (particularly Google Apps) can help children manage their learning in a ILE.

You will be able to find regular updates of what we are up to with our learning on this blog. We encourage you to leave a comment on blog posts.

For those of you who haven't met us...
