Digital Citizenship 2016

We are learning about our responsibilities as Digital Citizens.

Record your initial ideas of what Digital Citizenship is on this padlet.

This clip shows some of the key ideas we need to remember when we are online.

Are you a responsible digital citizen?

Do this quiz to learn more about Digital Citizenship...

http://www.digizen.org/resources/cyberbullying/interactive/

OUR NEW LEARNING... This is what we think is important...

TO BE RESPONSIBLE DIGITAL CITIZENS WE WILL...

  • Keep our personal details safe (passwords, addresses, phone numbers...)
  • Only use trusted websites
  • Tell an adult if there is anything we are unsure of
  • Respect the devices (Think about how we carry them, where we leave them)
  • Think about what we post/comment - it is like a tattoo (make sure it is kind/appropriate)
  • Think about the information/images we are using (have we used free images?)
  • Make sure we are using the computers for learning (follow the school procedures)

2016 Welcome

Kia Ora and welcome to GRi11 for 2016. We are excited to get to know you and your whanau throughout the year.  We are really looking forward to teaching in an Innovative Learning Space (ILE) again this year. We both love teaching and providing children with exciting, fun, and memorable learning opportunities. We are also interested in children developing an understanding of themselves as learners and how technology (particularly Google Apps) can help children manage their learning in a ILE.

You will be able to find regular updates of what we are up to with our learning on this blog. We encourage you to leave a comment on blog posts.

For those of you who haven't met us...

  • Sam B and Ben H won the Y4-6 Short Movie with 'History Test'
  • Tiaki won the Y4-6 Graphic Design with 'Lest We Forget'

  • SAM L also won the Y4-6 SUPREME AWARD as the overall winner for Y4-6 with his digital photograph, winning a Chromebook for the school. Did you know, in 2028...

Today we watched this video 'Did you know, in 2028...' and recorded what we thought and what we it made us wonder.

These were some of our wonderings...

I wonder...
  • How they know this will happen?
  • How many jobs will be available?
  • Will the world really change that much in the next 13 years?
  • What people will do if technology does everything?
  • Will we be like robots?
  • How much pollution is there going to be?
  • If there will be any space left on earth?
  • Will there still be computers?
  • What jobs we might have?
  • Will we use water from Mars? Does it have oxygen in it?
  • If we will still have cars?
  • How we will earn money?
  • Will artificial technology be safe, especially around young children... What if it glitches?
  • How we will afford to have houses and buy food if our jobs are replaced with artificial intelligence?
  • If 3D printing will take over the need for shops?
  • If there will be viruses that effect this kind of life?
  • Will Apple still be around?
  • What environmental problems there will be?
  • Will there still be conversations?
  • How will we be learning?

Watch the video and see what questions you have... What do you think the world will be like in 2028?

Trip to Mind Lab

This term in GRi11 we have been learning about businesses. We split up into small groups and made products for real money. The reason we have been selling our products for real money is because we have been raising to go to The Mind Lab in Petone (just out of Wellington).

At Mind Lab we did 3D printing, stop motion animation, makeys makeys, scribble bots and we also made motorised cars out of certain materials.

We had to take the bus to Petone ,which was good because us kids got to catch up on some sleep. We had to be at school by 7.45am so that we would not miss the bus and then we got back at 5.30.

Even though it was raining in Petone, and it was a long long day, all of the GRi11ers had a great day and there was no part of the day where people got bored. We had a great day at Mind Lab. We would love one here in Palmerston North.

Rippa Rugby Tournament

From Sunday to Monday and Tuesday our school Rippa Rugby team was representing the Manawatu region in Wellington.
They had been practising for over a month in the weekends, lunch times and in the afternoon block,
but all of their hard work payed of because they came 6th in the WHOLE of New Zealand! 5 of the 9 players were from GRi11!!!
Each team was given a country from the rugby world cup that we had to play as. Our team was chosen as Italy (The blue uniform you can see is kind of what the guys in the real world cup wear.)!
College Street Normal School is very, very proud and we hope that we make it to the regionals next year!

Upper Row - Simone, Holly, Liam, Mason, Maggie, Mr R
Lower Row - Cooper, Bella-Rose, Jacob, Georgie, Jamie
This is us just chilling on the turf!
Bella-Rose and the team watching the people we are competing do their Haka.
The team showing off our Italy uniforms (That we play in).
We found a Street that supports us! Thanks Wellington we really appreciate some luck!
